CoD4 Weapons: Barret .50cal Guide

Guide by Demon APX - About the Barrett .50 cal:
Welcome to the guide on the
Barrett. The last sniper rifle unlocked in the game, and the second to last overall
gun unlocked. Many think incredibly high of it, and many despise it. It works great
for some playing styles, and not so well for others. Hopefully this guide will help
you decide which side of the spectrum you are on.
Unlocked: Level 49
Until
Xplosiv uploads this, here you are, my guide to the Barrett .50 cal sniper rifle.
Barrett .50 cal General Tips:
Because it is semi-auto, go for the
no-scopes. It will take one hit to kill, so just aim in their general direction and
spray fire if you find someone in a close quarters situation. I have found often I
have taken quick reflex shots, only took 1 shot, and they have died. Even easier
with the steady aim perk on. Very helpful so you won’t need to worry about the time
it takes to pull out your pistol, line up, and get the shots off. Also, because this
gun has such incredible recoil, you have to make your shots count. There is nothing
more imperative to success with this gun. Line up, take the guaranteed kill, you’re
probably better off not firing at all if it’s a desperate shot because that way you
could give away your position, which is very easy with the huge muzzle flash and
bang from every shot. You cannot use this gun like you can the M21 or the M40A3.
This gun requires more patience and caution than the others, though shots are very
rewarding for their almost 100% one hit kill rate (with stopping power on, assuming
the target is in range). You’re better off going for meaty parts of the body too,
for instance shooting the tip of the head that is sticking out is a risky shot,
because this guns accuracy isn’t very good. Also, just like other snipers, don’t
step up right to a window if you’re in a building. Step back, let the walls cover
you up, it makes it harder for you to be detected or counter-sniped or killed in any
other manner. While you will lose some sight distance, it is worth the loss most of
the time. If you see someone come out of your sight distance, then sure you can take
the few seconds to step forward and take the shot. You just don’t want to camp with
the barrel of your gun sticking out of the window.

Normal Scope:
The first out of the two scopes you have,
unlocked along with the gun, you have to deal with it for 100 kills before you can
get the second. It’s a very nice scope, the same one that all of the other sniper
rifles have. The main thing you have to remember to do with this scope is make your
shots count. With the huge recoil of this gun, rebuttal shots are very hard. With
this scope, you really have to line up for the take down, hold your breath, and make
the shot. The good thing about this gun is that it is almost a guaranteed kill with
stopping power on, so as long as you hit the target you don’t have to worry about
taking a second shot.
ACOG Scope:
After 100 kills you unlock this
scope. You don’t have to hold your breath, but it still sways. There is less zoom
and range too, so this should be used if you like to be mobile. The best advantage
of this is that you do not having to hold your breath, making for much quicker
shots. It makes you mobile. Of course, this being said, mobile doesn’t mean being
the head of the assault. Stay behind the front line. Be reasonable.
Barrett .50 cal perks:
Bandolier: Well, with this particular sniper rifle, if
you’re making your shots count then ammo shouldn’t be much of a problem. But if you
deem this perk necessary then by all means use it.
Claymores x2: Cover your
back! Claymores are probably the best perk for a camping sniper. Even if they don’t
kill your attacker, they give off a resounding click and boom to let you know
someone is there. And you get two! Woohoo!
Frag x3: Great for mobile. If you
can’t really reach someone, or if they are hiding from you barretty radiance (yes, I
said barretty, deal with it), then this perk will make short work of them. Also with
this perk, well, go on. Take a chance. Heck, take two! Oh wait, there’s one more
left? FOR ALLAH!
Stopping Power: A great perk. Almost a 100% one shot one kill
rating with this perk on. What could go wrong? Do I hear Juggernaut? Psh, so long as
you get a body shot you should be fine. Try not to get those limbs.
UAV Jammer:
I see this sometimes. I guess it’s good if they’re hunting you and you’re not
shooting, great for hardcore, but probably not the best perk for normal.
Deep
Impact: This gun has the best wall penetration in the entire game. Turns concrete
into wood chips; or, more accurately, concrete chips. With such great wall
penetration already, this is really not needed.
Iron Lungs: Great for the
normal scope. You don’t have to worry about the previous four breaths. If you see
someone duck behind a wall, wait for them to pop out again and get yourself a
headshot. It’s that simple.
Steady Aim: A good perk if you find the others are
useless. Will keep you safe at close quarters.
