Guide by MrYogurt - YoGurT's Guide to the R700

Don't touch that dial, or I guess the "X" in the top right (whatever), because YoGurT has a new guide! It's on the R700, anyway hope you enjoy!

Introduction
The R700 is a bolt-action sniper rifle with high power and a 4-round clip. It is tied in power with the 50.cal, but it has better accuracy, making it the more effective choice for taking out foes at a range. The R700 is known for being one of the most disliked snipers of life, because of it's high recoil, low clip capacity, and just overall feel and performance. People seem to prefer the M40A3 because of lower recoil, and higher clip size. But I like the R700 a bit more now because of just pure power, being one of two hardest hitting guns in the game. This means all chest and headshots without stopping power are one-shot kills, making room for new perks like UAV Jammer. This is a feature that the M40A3 does not have, making the R700 the dominant long-range killer. I will delve into the R700 vs. M40A3 argument into a little more detail later, for now we will just focus on the R700.

History lesson

The Remington 700 is one of the most popular sniper rifles in the word, having hundreds of others modeled after it's design (including the M40A3). It's use within the military has ceased and has been replaced with the M24 and M40A3 in active service, but is still a favorite among police forces, hunters, and even professional shooters. It's design and performance is admired by many gun enthusiasts worldwide, and with it's family tree ever decending, it's legacy will be remembered.

Aiming and recoil

R700 has a massive recoil that can discourage some shooters, but if you are accurate enough, you won't notice it at all. Having the right attitude and knowledge with this sniper is important for it's use. Let's say you use an M40A3 (just an example) and you hold your breath, and fire a shot. When you have fired your shot, try to hold your breath and aim again. It takes a bit of time to steady your shot again doesn't it? Well, let's look at the R700. You repeat the process, except with the massive recoil it has. It fires, and the scope flies up a bit then returns to it's original position very quickly. If it automatically re-adjusts anyway and has to cock the bolt back, isn't the recoil irrelevant? It looks like it to me. To me, when using a bolt-action sniper, recoil makes no difference at all in the shooting, unless you are trying to take out multiple targets in a specific time frame. Sure it makes a little bit of a difference, since you lose view of your surroundings for a second, but all the more reason to actually not miss.

It is a very accurate sniper, and will never make any random misses. But because of the small clip size and the high recoil, I would only recommend this sniper to a good marksman. Someone who can nail whoever he sees, and can do it with a chest or head shot every time.

No-scoping

No-scoping with the R700 is very tricky to do. It's strange because the M40A3 seems to be a lot better. Unless you are really good at no-scoping, I would recommend getting better with a pistol instead, because of it's inability to no-scope well.

Overkill

Since chest shots are a one-hit kill, why not have overkill? It's great because you can defend yourself well in close quarters, so there are no worries about flankers. I would recommend a P90 or AK, because they seem to be the more effective overkill weapons.

Acog

The acog on the R700 is a questionable decision, as it has no added bonus like the M40 does. I myself prefer the standard scope to the acog, but mobile snipers could use it I guess. However, for mobile sniping an M21 or M40 would be a much better decision than the R700. Stick to long range shooting with this gun.

R700 vs. M40A3

This is almost a battle rather than a petty argument, and I'm going to cover some vital points here.

Clip size

This is one of the main arguments when people talk about differences, and it's so stupid. I don't understand how clip size makes a big difference when you are playing with a bolt-action sniper. First of all, the M40A3 only has one more round per clip than the R700, which is not a big difference at all. When I snipe, I reload after about 2 or 3 kills, which makes the extra round in the M40 redundant. Some people snipe and never reload until they have an empty clip, but if you have all that extra time between shots, why not reload? It's common sense, and a guaranteed habit among first-person shooter players anyway.

Accuracy

They both have very good accuracy, but the M40 has a much lower recoil, which makes shooting someone again if you miss easier. The R700 is still accurate, but forces you to hit your targets and actually become a better sniper because of the recoil.

Power

The R700 is more powerful. The End.

So all in all, they are both great guns, so let's leave it at that.

Perks and Custom classes

Claymore x2: Claymores are a snipers best friend, and can be used in virtually any situation to help a sniper out.

Bandolier: Great for long killstreaks, and it's good for laying waste to a building full of enemies. I would only advise using it if your perimeter is already protected by claymores.

Stopping power: It's excellent for getting one-shot kills with the R700, and it's probably my favorite perk for it.

UAV Jammer: This is great for a stealthy sniper class, and can get you a lot of kills. Just remember that you still appear on radar when you shoot, so make sure to alternate locations.

Iron Lungs: No real competition here, Iron lungs is the best sniper perk for long-range kills.

Long-range sniper

R700
Side arm of choice

Claymore x2
Stopping power
Iron Lungs

This is the standard R700 class, and I find it gets the most kills. Aim anywhere but the limbs and you will get one-shot kills.

Stealthy sniper

R700
M9

Bandolier
UAV Jammer
Iron Lungs.

I chose bandolier because you really have to alternate sniping locations when using UAV Jammer, plus if you hit someone in the stomach it's not a one-hit kill without stopping power, so you will have to shoot again.

Overkill sniper

R700
P90

Claymore x2
Overkill
Steady aim

This is a great class, just keep in mind that you should only be using your P90 when you need it, not all the time.

Maps

The R700 is great on any long-range map, I will list them here:

Ambush
Backlot
Bloc
Crash
Crossfire
Overgrown
Pipeline
Strike

New maps

Creek
Boadcast

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed! Oh and happy shooting!
