Why the RPD is better than the M249 SAW:
The SAW's main advantage is that it has a high fire rate, but it's very weak. The RPD on the other hand has 25% more damage than the SAW, and a 24% slower fire rate. That means the RPD is slightly more damaging in the same amount of time. The SAW also has fairly bad iron sights, so the RDS is an important attatchment for it, meaning a SAW user will be juggling between bad iron sights and recoil. The RPD has very good iron sights (the best in the game IMO), so RPD users should always use the grip.

Why the RPD is better than the M60E4:
On paper, the M60 is as good as the RPD; it has slightly more damage, and a slightly lower fire rate. However, the M60 has a MASSIVE recoil problem and disgusting iron sights, so M60 users will have the same problem as SAW users, juggling between bad iron sights and recoil.

Perks:
Tier one:
You should always use the grip instead of a tier one perk. However, if you miss your explosives, then just use your favourite tier one perk.

Tier two:
Stopping power: Highly recommended tier two perk. This turns the RPD into a two hit kill.

Juggernaut: Overrated perk, don't use it. If the enemy has you in their sights, you're probably going to die, Juggernaut or not.

Sleight of hand: I see a lot of people saying this perk is good for LMGs, but I disagree. Run out of ammo in a firefight, and you will die, Sleight of hand or not, and if you run out in a safe place, you don't need to reload fast.

Double tap: I prefer stopping power; more damaging bullets are better than a higher fire rate. Double tap will also increase recoil.

Overkill: Overrated. Just pick up another gun.

UAV jammer: With an RPD?? You must be joking. This perk is only useful with snipers or silenced weapons. The RPD is neither.

Sonic boom: Since the grip will replace your explosive perks, don't use this.

Tier three:
Extreme conditioning: This is good, but there are better tier three perks.

Steady aim: The best tier three perk IMO. Will really help in CQC.

Last stand: Overrated. You didn't kill him with an LMG, what makes you think you can kill him with a pistol?

Martyrdom: Overrated. This only works in close range, and the enemy will usually escape.

Deep impact: I find it hard to shoot people through walls, deep impact or not. But if you like wall spamming, then by all means choose this.

Iron lungs, Dead silence, Eavesdrop: Pointless for an LMG class.

Attachments:
Red Dot Sight: A good attachment, but unnecessary. The RPD has excellent iron sights.

ACOG scope: I never use this for any gun. The magnification doesn't really help that much, and you lose peripheral vision. Also, you move slower when looking down it.

Grip: Yes yes yes! Absolutely use this! It drastically reduces recoil, which is a lot more useful than some explosion perk.

RPD classes:

Assault class:
RPD w/ Grip
Pistol of your choice
Stun grenade
Stopping power/double tap
Steady aim

Tactics:
Burst fire at medium-long range. At close range, spam spam spam!
Don't aim for the head. The recoil will do that for you.
For God's sake, don't try to out-snipe a sniper.
Do not reload. Ever. Unless you have to.
Do not try to charge someone and knife them.

Maps:
The RPD is good on most maps. Especially Shipment. You will be a death machine on Shipment.
