RPD CoD4

Guide by RRjohn - Well, to start off, in the latter half of the 2nd prestige (I am currently rank 47 3rd prestige) I decided to give the LMGs (Light Machine Guns) a go. The SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon) and M60 are good weapons, but both have some considerable drawbacks. However, I tried to the RPD and was astounded, and it gets even better and more devastating as you unlock the attachements.

So anyway, here is my guide to the RPD.

Part 1
Attachments

No attachments/Naked
Obvious enough, the weapon is not equipped with any attachments and you only have the iron sights to play with, excellent iron sights, but not quite as useful nonetheless.

Red Dot Sight/RDS (25 Kills)
A reflex sight that allows easier aiming and makes difficult shots (Such as someones head poking out above a ledge) easier. The RPD has extremely good iron sights, however, so I feel the RDS is of limited use with this gun. I recommend using a different attachment.

Grip(75 kills)
Reduces recoil while aiming down the sites. When equipped with the grip the RPD can pull off some incredible long distance shots with burst fire. Personally, I believe it is by far the most useful and most effective attachment. I haven't stopped using this for 2 weeks, thats how good it is.

Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight/ACOG Scope (150 kills)
An enhanced zoom telescoping sight. Increases range, but the scope sways around a lot (However it is very easy to get used to with practise) and the RPDs recoil does not combine well with the sway. Only use if experienced with the ACOG scope.

Part 2
Perks

Perk 1

C4x2. Not recommended for an LMG class
Specialx3. Should only really be used on a spec ops class.
RPGx2. 2 rockets capable of almost destroying a helipcopter. I don't use but many LMG users do.
Claymorex2. Like C4 is not recommended on an LMG class.
Fragx3. What I use. Gives you 3 extra frag grenades to play with.
Bandolier. Almost completely useless with the massive clips and incredible reload times of LMGs.
Bomb Squad. Should only be used on a Snd or a ghost/spec ops/stealth class.

Perk 2

Stopping Power. My personal preference. The RPD is very powerful when using SP.
Juggernaut. Very effective with the RPD. Ignore all the haters and use it.
Sleight of Hand. Would at first appear ideal but you won't be reloading the RPD very much.
Double Tap. The SAW is very good with DT, so go ahead and try it out with the RPD.
Overkill. Pointless with the RPD.
UAV Jammer. Can be used well, but the fact that you will be firing a huge loud machine gun defeats the purpose just a bit.
Sonic Boom. Makes grenades much more deadly. Can give you a lot of kills when paired with Fragx3 but after you have used your explosives up then it's useless.

Perk 3

Extreme Conditioning. Use if you find yourself running out of breath/sprint often. Useful to rush enemy positions.
Steady Aim. Makes the RPD deadly when firing from the hip. But you shouldn't be in CQC situations anyway.
Last Stand. Hard to get kills with. A waste of a perk slot.
Martydom. The most despised perk in the game. Doesn't get that many kills. Don't use.
Deep Impact. What I use, allows the RPD to tear through most material and barriers with ease.
Iron Lungs. Obviously is utterly useless on a non sniper class.
Dead Silence. Don't use, for the same reasons as UAV Jammer.
Eavesdrop. Useless

Part 3
Techniques

Burst Fire:
At medium to long range spamming your target will rarely kill unless you get lucky. Tap the fire button repeatedly but don't hold it down. Especially deadly with the grip, the RPD can easily be lethal at sniper ranges when equipped with the grip. Learn how to burst fire well and you will be unstoppable at all ranges.

Aiming:
It seems basic, but please for the love of god don't aim at your opponents cranium. Your opponent will laugh while the faint whistle of bullets ripping through the air can be heard somewhere above. Aim for the chest or waist, or if you are going for headshots, aim at the base of the neck. The recoil will carry the bullets up to the head.

Strafeing;
Move from side to side in a fire fight. It is simple, but can make you much harder to hit, especially at long distances. Simply moving in random directions can torment snipers in a whole new way. Avoid backing away, you will get yourself killed, and don't try and charge and knife someone who is wielding a double tap'ed P90.
