EDIT: Updated guide with some tips from Zack2010. Thanks Zack.

Hey.
This is my first guide. Just a nice guide to the AK-74u.

A often underestimated and ignored SMG, the AK-74u is a very powerful gun.
You just need to use it the way it's meant to be used: in CQB and on small maps.

The AK-74u has small, extremely manageable recoil, so you can get kills from pretty long ranges, but it's rate of fire is pretty average for an SMG, being the same as the MP5's rate.
I would suggest a rapid-fire controller with this, but it's OK either way.

The Red Dot Sight is what I suggest for general use on it, and Steady Aim is almost a required perk to have. However, attachments reduce accuracy, so if you don't really need the Red Dot, don't put it on.

It can kill in about 3 chest hits with Stopping Power, which is good, and high mobility, which enables you to sprint around maps like a ninja, then pop some caps-from-the-hip like a gangsta'.

Now on to the classes section:

1. General Purpose

AK-74u Red Dot Sight or No Attachment
M9
Smoke Grenade
Bandolier
Stopping Power
Steady Aim

General class for the AK-74u.
Red Dot Sight is for longer ranges, where Iron Sights are unconventional, but it also reduces accuracy, so if you feel like you don't need the RDS on the map you are playing on (like Creek, for example), then don't use it.
M9 I choose over the Desert Eagle because it has more ammo, and a much bigger clip, just in case you have to reload in a battle.
Smoke Grenade is for objective games, like headquarters, where you can toss some Smoke, go prone, capture the objective, then cut down any enemies from the smoke.
You will often run out of ammo, so the Bandolier is the most conventional Perk 1.
Stopping Power for more power, since SMG's aren't that powerful.
And Steady Aim is the best for close quarters, where being able to kill from the hip is the difference between life, and death. You will seriously be able to kill from the hip at ranges longer than you can imagine for hip fire.

Good Maps For This Class: Vacant, Shipment, Showdown, Chinatown, Broadcast, Killhouse, Bloc, Ambush, and Crash.

2. Ghost Class

AK-74u Suppressed
USP .45 Suppressed
Flashbang Grenade
Bomb Squad
UAV Jammer
Dead Silence/Steady Aim

Standard Ghost class.
Silenced weapons and UAV Jammer for absolute no detection (except for visual).
Flashbang for blinding rooms of enemies or lone wolves and silently killing them without them even knowing you were there.
Bomb Squad for noticing Claymores and sneaking around them/destroying them in order to kill snipers.
Dead Silence is for smaller amounts of people, or free-for-all gametypes like Cage Match, Hardcore, and Search and Destroy, and Steady Aim is for bigger games like Team Deathmatch or Ground War.

Good Maps For This Class: Wet Work, Creek, Vacant, Broadcast, Backlot, Chinatown, Countdown, Strike, Bloc, Crash, Ambush, and Downpour.

3. Sniper Assistance

AK-74u ACOG or Red Dot Sight or No Attachment
Desert Eagle
Stun Grenade
Claymore x2
Juggernaut or Stopping Power
Last Stand or Martyrdom

This class is designed and made to guard teammates which are sniping, and cannot conventionally watch their backs. This is obviously a very team based class, so don't use it if you are a lone wolf or the like.
ACOG is for Sniping positions which are more exposed, like the sniper which is sniping from the top of a dumpster on Downpour, or a building in Bloc, in which you need more zoom to take out enemies at longer ranges. Red Dot is for everything else.
The Desert Eagle is the most powerful pistol, and you might need power just in case you are put in Last Stand.
Stun Grenade is to stun the enemies and kill them before they can kill the Sniper.
Claymores are to kill enemies as they enter the entrance of the sniping position.
Juggernaut is to stay alive more to let the sniper escape, but Stopping Power would be used to kill more enemies before they get to the Sniper.
Last Stand is to make a last stand against the enemies, and allow the Sniper to escape while you distract the enemies. Martyrdom is to slow down and distract the enemies to grant the Sniper more time to escape.

Good Maps For This Class: Bloc, Wet Work, Countdown, Downpour, Ambush, Bog, Chinatown, Creek, District, Overgrown, Strike, Pipeline, and Crash.

4. Vacancy - For Vacant, Shipment, Showdown, and maps similar to those.

AK-74u No Attachment
M9
Stun Grenade
Frag x3
Sonic Boom
Martyrdom

No attachment increases accuracy, even the better for CQB.
This is designed to be of use in extremely close quarters maps, like Vacant (grenade spamming and Martyrdom FTW!!!), Shipment (need I say more?), and Showdown.
Lots of explosives which will make you a moving bomb, basically.

Good Maps For This Class: Vacant, Shipment, Showdown, Broadcast, Wet Work, and Killhouse.

5. Combined Fire

AK-74u Red Dot Sight
Barrett .50cal
Smoke Grenade
Claymore x2
Overkill (duh)
Iron Lungs/Steady Aim

A class which incorporates both short, AND long range. You can use the AK-74u for protection while moving between sniper spots, or if you hear that Claymore go off.
Barrett is the most powerful sniper rifle.
Smoke is to cover yourself while you move between sniping positions.
Claymores are for protection.
Overkill is to be able to have two guns.
And the choice between Iron Lungs or Steady Aim depends on the map. If it is a long range map, like Creek, then choose Iron Lungs since you will probably be using the sniper more. If you are on a map which has more buildings, or cover, like Chinatown, then use Steady Aim, since you will probably be using the AK-74u more.

/End Guide

I hope you found this an enjoyable, and informative guide.

Real Life AK-74u Knowledge: The AK-74u isn't actually an SMG, but a compact AK-47 assault rifle, made for situations where a full sized assault rifle was unconventional, but the strength of an assault rifle was needed, like for pilots and tank crews.

Good guide dude.
The AK-74u is my favorite SMG.

Couple things though:
1. When you put attachments on this gun, it's accuracy is reduced
2. And it fires at the same rate as an MP5

Other than that, well done.

+Karma for you!

Yes, when you put ANY attachment on the AK-74u, its accuracy is reduced.
Just like when you put a RDS or a Silencer on an AK-47, it's damage is reduced.

So then, you like the AK-74u, just less than the MP5 and the AK-74u?
LOL.

I used to call it the "AK47u" until my friend corrected me today. I feel like an idiot for all the times I called it the AK47u instead of the AK74u. Cheesy
