Crash and Error message in single player - Help needed

Hi all

Playing single player game fine until I reach Act 1 "Shock and Awe" level when my PC drops the game and I'm staring at my desktop.

I enabled console and an error message was proudly repeated over and over that read....

Error: Couldn't play stream 'sound/music\HGW_gameshell_v10.mp3' from alias 'music_mainmenu_mp' - Error getting sound format

My rig ain't the fastest but it's been playing the game OK and Multiplay appears fine.

MOBO MSI Neo2 Platinum
AMD Athlon 4000+ Socket 939 processor (2.41GHz)
2GB Dual Channel Ram
Radeon X1650 512MB (AGP) Video card
AC97 on-board sound

Any suggestions appreciated ... Please no wise guys... I'd love a new PC

man I was gonna upload my saves but I tested one profiles save game does not wok on another profile so that wont work.

I searched the net, you cannot skip a mission(this non-online profile business of IW's really screwed on pc version)

I only can suggest you to reinstall the game

Well...

I did re-install...

I the D/L'd all the patches from 1.1. to 1.7 and installed up to 1.5 (which I am still running) which seems to be working best for the Single Player so far.... I still have similar issues but when a crash occurrs, I go to my COD4 DVD and copy over the Video and other files of the same name from my Zone and Main folders to the directory where I installed and that seems to get me through that level.... With a bit of luck I'll get through the whole game

Any chance you could throw a dedicated sound card on that rig?
