What kind of mouse do you use?  Does it matter to you?
For instance I recently switching to a Razer mouse with 1800 dpi and i am still getting accustomed to the SPEEEEEEED.

How about keyboards?  Any of you using special gaming keyboards?  Lighted ones with the room lights off?

I use the MX518 gaming mouse and a g15 keyboard, best money I've ever spent on a keyboard, worth every penny.

Nice mouse - I was using the same one but finally decided I wanted something flatter, hence the Razer.  The Razer software has a speed control in increments form 0 to 10 and they recommend starting low.  I was a smart ass and started at 7... I am now at 2 1/2. LOL
I went from a Saitek lighted keyboard - to play Doom3 in the dark - to an Ideazon gaming keyboard... nice.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, you can compare using a mouse + keyboard to driving a car...

Regular mouse and keyboard = Your everday cheapo ford, gets you from point A to point B, yay?

Gaming mouse and keyboard = Hey, here's your ferrari, and this one breaks the sound barrier, happy driving!

They do the same thing, but at the same time there's no comparison. The latter is vastly superior to the former.

Don't have a gaming keyboard myself yet, but I love my G5 mouse. 0-2000 DPI, switching between 5 pre-set settings whenever I like. Mousewheel that clicks side to side as well as the usual foward/back/down. Super smooth across the mousepad and I can set the weight with little...weights, that come in this little classy box. Oh yeah and a fourth button on the side. Plus the whole thing's shaped to feel real comfy..

Like I say, it's like the difference between a cheapo car and a luxury supercar.  Grin

Vancha gave a really nice explanation.  I would add that with a gaming keyboard what you can get - dependning on the board - are special key layouts, programmable keys, lit keys for playing in the dark - which can really enhance the experience and if you've never played Doom3 with surround speakers int he dark - if you can try it and you will be jumping back out of your chair.
My keyboard - an Ideazon - has a custom pad on the left with duplicate AWSD and numer and function keys arranged ergonomically so that you can reach more of them.  it is also lit, and programmable.  It has helped me immensly especially with COD4 because there are so many hot keys.

I can see the importance of a nice decent mouse, but a special keyboard? Cummon.... Mine was a tenner or something and it's a fully capable multi-media, key assigning unit. Sure it has no lights but ohwell.... Logitech, works a treat.

When I get my gaming PC through in about a month  I'll need some advice on a decent mouse through. How much is a fairly good one?

For me the keyboard thing is actually better physical placement of keys.  Normal keybaords have them in a straight row which is Ok for typing (not counting ergonomic boards) but when you have to reach A LOT of keys quickly with one hand if they are arranged in more of a semi-circle you can get to more of them. Here is my board:

As for mice that's so personal and depends on your preferences and the size of your hand and even how you hold the mouse - fingers vs full palm grip.  My hands aren't very big so I like flatter mice like the Razers.  Then you can get something like Vancha's with adjustable weights etc.  You have to research it.

I SO want a gaming keyboard, I can only press 2-3 keys at once (depending which ones) then the 3rd/4th+ keys don't register, which is SO frustrating (this happens WAY more than you'd expect).

MrCynical - mice can run from $40 and up.  For instance the the Logitech MX518 is an entry-level gaming mouse and can be had for $39.99 at NewEgg.  Vancha's G5 is $49.99 not counting a rebate also at NewEgg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826104076
The Razers run anywhere from the mid $30's to $99 all dependning on your preference of size, shape, and very important - speed.  I have a Razer Diamondback and it is faster than I can handle yet.
Hope that helps!
