Thanks.  Yes - I install the OS and the games on teh Raptor - that's my C drive.  All other applications, music, photos, patches, copies of app's etc are on the 300 Gig drive.  If I ever have to rebuild the C drive from scratch - reformat - everything on the 300 gig drive will still be there.

Not even my system and I can answer this:

Yes - three GPU's is possible. It's pretty new but real.  I woould be very interested to hear how the three GPU's is working out on this PC.
Yes - 2 Gig  RAM is fine if the OS is XP.  If you put 4 Gig XP can't even see it all, so you are wasting some of your money.  Also COD4 is far more GPU dependent as opposed to CPU so 2 Gig is RAM is fine.  Oh and DDR3 RAM is EXPENSIVE. However if the OS is Vista I would agree about the 4 Gig RAM.

Nope, Triple 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 is basiclly 3 graphics cards together Tongue I beleive the it's the only triple card out atm? Also, Destro, I have XP I think Vista in kinda crappy and I find XP runs faster.

I think that Vista is crap too. Im not changing my xp unless there will be games that dont work on xp. But to madmat: its obvius that that system isnt for cod4. Cod4 is the most optimised pc game that ever has been created:D But if I were you phat ranger: I wouldnt buy that system before there were any games that can make that system worth anything. You could have played any game with full settings over 60 fps by spending half the amount.

I bought it now so I wouldn't have to buy it later (probably wouldn't be bothered) and I had money to spend  Cheesy

How is it obvious that the system isn't for COD4?  Also - are you assuming COD4 is the only game he is going to play?  That system is set up for future use too with DDR3.
I have to agree about Vista.  I installed it to see how good DirectX10 is - it's OK so far.  I have a lot of other games installed on my PC - but I would NOT tell anyone to go out and install Vista over XP at this point unless they have a solid reason for it.

I know its for future too.

BUT

if he saved the money, when there will be games that actually CAN BENEFIT from such high system, the half of the half of the (I mean quarter fo the money he spent now) money he saved will be enough to gather same system at that time. Buying the EBSULUTE BEST system is never a good choice. I just buy the 1 low version of the best and I just upgrade my pc every june. I never have played ANY game at thier time EXCEPT crysis and doom. And after a year I played doom everythin on and max and Ill play crysis full next june. I mean just to max some games THE DAY ITS RELEASED dont worth it.

After all, after 2 years your pc is going to be old too

When he gets Far Cry 2, he'll be on maximum settings at high resolution while laughing at our medium settings. Sad Tongue

But yeah, lots of people have three 280 GTX's, just so they can get Crysis to 80 FPS at maximum settings and high resolution. He has a future proof system which will last years.

About Vista, supposedly games are supposed to look better on it, especially the 64-bit version. I have both XP and Vista Ultimate x64, and when my 9800 GTX+ arrives, I'm gonna play Crysis on it. Cheesy

well, I dont think that crysis has THAT great graphics to require such high system to play. Well I agree that crysis is the game that has the best graphics ever, but the graphics arent that great to be only run on a system that you have spen more then 3000$

Destro I actually agree with the way you buy/build PC's from a cash bang-for-the-buck basis.  I also never buy cutting edge components because they are too expensive and within a relatively short amount of time will be far cheaper.

That being said the fact remains that if someone has the money to spend and chooses to buy the very latest components in a system then more power to them and the system we have been discussing is a good one.
