Sure, there is an upfront cost when buying a PS3, much like there is when you buy an Xbox 360, but to play online with a PS3 is free.  I do not have an Xbox 360, so I do not know what the Gold & Silver levels of Xbox Live get you, but I did a little math to compare both game systems, as far as costs to purchase each game system and play online (with the Gold package for Xbox 360).  I used 5 years as the time period, figuring that most gamers would play their current systems for 5 years, after which time, the next next generation systems may be here.



Playstation 3

PS3 (80GB) = $399.99

Cost to play online via PSN (Playstation Network) = Free



Total out of pocket cost for PS3 and PSN (Playstation Network) after 5 years = $399.99

Xbox 360

╬The PS3 is also still, techniquely speaking, new. I say this because there is still a whole lot of things that can still be done on the PS3. The technology it uses are far above, imo, than anything on the market. That gives a lot of potential for the product. The 360, arguably, is almost to its max. It has shown most of what it can do, where the PS3 has shown only a fraction of its power. The 360's climax has came and went and it's now on its decline and the PS3 is still on its rising action.

Blu-ray disks can store much more information the the standard HD DVD. It has more space which leads to more content, better graphics, lengither (is that even a word?) stories, etc... and as games get bigger and bigger, companies need a format that can store all of their data and information. Blu-ray is getting more and more popular nowadays with movies also.

And as said above, you really get more bang for your buck. The a lot features built into the PS3 has to be bought seperately for the 360. And the cost of Live will add up over time. And the accessories needed to match the PS3 will be added to the cost. But of course, you don't have to buy those things if you don't want to. So to me, if you want to pure gaming system, get a 360. Home Entertainment/Gaming system, get a PS3.

That 360 doesn't have a hdd and can't play games that require any sort of save.

Hence its name 360 Arcade.

the main difference between the ps3 and the 360 is quality and the little details
if you dont want as many glitches or freezes go with the ps3. the ps3 is prolly like 300x more durable. i dropped my 40g from at least 3 feet(dont ask) and it works fine. ask any 360 owner and they will cry at that thought. the ps3 has a little better graphics but barely any. the Gaming associations rated ps3 better. but if you just want to play video games and deal with some glitches and lower quality stuff.
id prefer the ps3. but a 360 isnt that much worse. but ps3 is worth the price.

yes. the 360 is ass. me and my bro went through 3 within 2 years, good thing they're made so well    the ps3's interface is fa'reaking amazing and streamlined, unlike the xbizzle's clunky, hope-it-doesn't-freeze interface =) if only that son of a bitch didn't have gears 2 coming out... lol
