One on one, I could beat most players you throw at me:

I played three gold crosses in a row (for real) in cage matches, and beat every single one of them. The first one, named 'TheHotel' on Crash and he started with like, a three kill streak, but I came back and got an airstrike, he killed me a another time, then I got a UAV, and he left, final score: 8 to 3.

Then I played verse a guy named xEAGLE EY3x and he was using a cog'd gold drag and I was using an R700. He started out with a 4 kill streak, then I got a 4 kill streak, he got 2 kills, then I went on a six kill streak. Final score: 10-6.

The last guy I forgot the details but he was a level 43 gold cross and I beat him 10-4.

And this got me thinking: If I can beat these guys, why am I always doing badly in TDM? I'm always being killed from behind, or double teamed,  or otherwise killed by someone I couldn't have seen. Can anyone help?

cuz there are more people to worry about than just that one guy. they see the opportunity to get you when you are focusing on another enemy.

Because one on one is just that. Nobody is going to double team you. You have one guy to find and that's it. Gold Cross doesn't always mean they're great players anyway.

Well you can tell when they're good... and they were pretty good; I'd be willing to bet that they always do better than me in TDM.

I think I lack some sort of knowledge in the flow of the game... can someone give me tips.

Crunchatize them, Captain.

Maybe you should be more slow and methodical while working around the map so that you don't walk into someone's view.

I don't know - maybe start watching the hud more, so you can get a gneral sense of where your teammates are, and therefore figure out where most of the enemy is.  Seeing a big part of the map with nobody in it, is a pretty clue that somebody is flanking - use that to narrow down, and guess how stealthily they are moving across.

That's all I got - I don't know enough about your gameplay to offer better advice.  Besides, you'd prolly spank me in cage match anyway, so I prolly have no biz giving advice.

Thanks to all who have replied.

Good news:

I went 19-12 in tdm including a helicopter, plus I joined in 3 minutes late game so that's an especialy good score, and we won by a narrow 30 points, which means I made a good difference.

And I pwned some noobs in FFA... but everyone in FFA sucks. Oh well, it was fun.

You don't really have to be all that good at the game to own at tdm, simply doing the basics like checking corners, waiting for UAV scans before moving blindly forward and staying about 4 meters away from allies should give you the advantage over the average player.

Oh, and also ensuring you opt for a weapon that compliments the map. Many players do not, for example the SMG users on Creek. As a sniper or LDR user it's very easy to simply pick them off as they come running towards the largest house. If I join a game late I generally go for something like a M16 or G36C, or atleast some kind of versatile setup considering regardless of map, it's difficult to be sure of the turns the game has took.

You should also be very aware of spawns, and the fact that enemies respawn instantly. It's advisable to move significantly after each kill if possible, considering generally you're victims will simply head back to where you kill them, and/or throw frag(s) to the general area you were killed.

Generally when I'm sniping if I'm really unsure of an area and it's pretty open. I'll hang back and either let the enemies run into my line of fire or simply see how one of my team mates fares in theres. If a teammate is nearby with say a LMG moving rather obviously, it's reasonably safe for you to move considering he will almost definitely be target number one for your enemies. Watch them pop out and fire at him then take them out yourself, preferably before you're team mate dies.

That's generally my style of play in hostile territory anyway. By that I mean - when I'm out gunned but they aren't completely aware of my position.

Sorry if my advice comes a little late, glad to hear your KDR for tdm is improving.

If you need more details there are advanced combat tactic guides on these forums also, I assume there are some that cover tactics applicable to tdm.

Some slightly obvious advice, stuff I already new, but it's basically how to play CoD in a nutshell and I think needed a reminder because I was in a slump. Thanks for that +k.

You're right. The people who are getting all the kill streaks are people who constantly look around. They are always being safe. Either that or they're lucky and maybe they move too much.

I think the best advice for TDM has already been given... but here's my take on it.
Get your map up. Often.
A lot of times people play TDM and just rush in, and get their heads blown off.
When the game starts, don't move. Get your map up and watch where your team is going. This will help depending on your strategy. If you are a ghost you want to stay away from your team members who will more than likely just draw fire to you.
If you snipe, you can look out for people who are targeting your team members better if you know where your team is.
The map also helps early on, beacuse you will see the red dots of the other team. You can note if they are moving, or if they are camping. (if you are a ghost it should be easy to go and get the campers).
Also if you only see 2 red dot's you know you are playing a team of mostly ghosts.
All this info you can get just by watching the map for 10 seconds at the beggining of the game.
Any time your team gets UAV up, get your map up. Often you can see that your team has enemy pinned down in one corner of the map - so you go and help.. or you set yourself up on the opposite spawn, because they'll all be coming from there soon enough.
I only really play TDM, and HTDM, and this kind of map usage really helps (went 21-2 yesterday on Overgrown, 18-0 on Crash, can't remember the rest, but even with a hopeless team, if you use the map you will usually get the best KDR).
Hope this helps.

i tihnk your just in a bad slump. i once went 2 weeks without getting a good K/D ratio, its all in your mind. just try to start thinking positively, and the next thing you know, you'll be checking every corner and owning the other team. i like to check everything in TDM, i check every corner and every hiding spot (which is usually the corner). you must keep up your concentration levels to do well in TDM.
