Reducing online difficulty

So, ever since I came back to playing CoD4 I noticed there were much less lower ranked players than before, but put this down to the fact that the 'softcore' players didn't stick around.

However upon uninstalling the mappack today (as I don't like creek) I found myself in constant games with lower ranked players (rank 1-165 ish) ... so I assume that players without the mappack can only encounter others without, and considering most 'hardcore' cod4 players are willing to expend a little $$$ for the maps I didn't encounter a single skilled player over the 8 or so searches for games I did.

So I was wondering if this was just a coincidence? Or if uninstalling the map pack really does essentially reduce cod4's online difficulty. Every game I seemed to be getting 5:1-15:1 kdr's lol

If you're suggesting the matchmaking system doesn't work in the way I've assumed then please explain how it differs.

I assumed it so as if maps like creek and whatnot were to only occur when an entire team was together with the mappack, they'd rarely be played at all. Which is why the matchmaking in most fps games is restricted to playlists for those with or without the mappack.

I also said it could just be a coincidence... but I haven't seen so many people below rank 30 since I first got cod4.

Anyone plays with anyone. When a new map is not skipped and the game starts, all those without the new pack automatically get quit out.

I know this because my friend, who doesn't have the map pack, always gets quit out when a new map is played.

However if one was to get kicked out every time a new map occurred, it's surely more likely that one would be 'matchmade' with others who don't have the map packs as others will have also been kicked out of there games.

So on the basis of the assumption that players without the mappack are lesser in terms of player skill to those with (I realize this is not always the case) then based on probability you'll still end up with lesser opponents teams than if you had the mappack (on average) Right?

I haven't actually encountered one of the new maps at all in my play lists yet though, which is odd considering if what you say is true...

They get "quit out"? I don't have the map pack, and I'm not sure what you're talking about. I think it just skips the new maps if someone in the lobby doesn't have them.

Or more likely, the haves and have-nots don't get paired.

You either get quit out or a new map isn't chosen. They don't segregate them completely I am sure.

It would say something like the 'lobby is closed' or 'unable to find host' or whatever when you get quit out.

Is that what that is? I assumed it was just the host bugging out. Is there anything official on this? The first one seems like it might be the case, but the second one sounds like it should be exactly as it says.

Creek is a terrible map. Almost everyone camps, and if you try and flush them out you get sniped, or claymored.

It's the same for everyone, but the winners win.

Even if you lose, so what, learn and try again next time.

I hate Creek with a passion, but I never skip it. It is unbalanced, but when you finally flank them, take the high ground, and make them spawn down the bad end, it's very rewarding.

Plus, I hate it when you have a good dynamic going with a team, then Creek comes up, or Chinatown, or Downpour, then everyone quits. That's just lame.

No, if you don't have the map pack you never see the new maps. Well on ps3 anyways.

Sometimes if I join a lobby of someone I know, it'll have one of the new maps in rotation. The game doesn't actually check that I have it until the match starts and I don't have the map data. But I'm guessing that it normally does the check as soon as it's brought up.

I've been in lobbies for a rotation or two through all the maps, I can't say it's consistent with being kicked. I can't really say that an anecdote really proves what it is one way or another.

You're post isn't relevant to the topic whatsoever. Regardless I will address it;

I did not uninstall the map pack permanently (why waste what I payed for) it's a 450mb file so I can DL it again instantly without charge. And I never suggested in any way that I do not play the maps that I don't do well on, I just dislike creek for reasons I do not need to explain.

I also did not state that I was 'amazing' I stated that after uninstalling the map pack my KDR seems to have increased phenomenally against what it was beforehand. I also stated that it was either coincidence or the fact that the players I was facing were much lesser than before I uninstalled the pack. You can relate neither coincidence or the uninstallation of the pack to player skill so really I have no clue what the hell you're on about. Appreciated if you don't attempt to degrade one of my threads again.
