What is prestige mode?

(Note: The PC version of the game does not contain Prestige Mode) Prestige Mode is where you get to be a virgin again...j/k...no but really, it's pretty much just like your first time online w/ COD4. When you reach LVL 55 and max out your EXP bar completely, you then get that choice to reset your weapon load out (sights, camo, the works....everything damnit), loose all the challenges you completed, to what you started online with and get a shiny medal to replace your 5 stars next to your name. You can do this up to 10 times. Just shows how hardcore you are. You are not awarded anything beneficial for this except for bragging rights. So make sure this what you want to do...because I dont want to see any complaints about 'prestige mode sucks because i have crap weapons again'

Why can't I snipe the guy 2 feet in front of me with my sniper rifle or ACOG equiped weapon? The bullet goes right through him and doesnt kill him!!!

Maybe because sniping was meant to be done at long distances. Seriously, Infinity Ward (IW for short) has addressed the issue with the hit detection through the use of scoped weapons. The patch for this should be released some time next year (maybe someone else could give a release date?) Other than that, all you can do is practice a little more and take your time with your shots. Don't ***** about it because everyone will start pouring gasoline on your topic and then you know what happens next. Some people like sniping the way it is now. Me...it is broken, but it keeps the game interesting and not filled with snipers.

What's with the 'Downloading Game Settings' message?...it stays there forever!!!

Typically this shouldnt stay on the screen for more than 20 seconds. If it does, then it more than likely means IW's servers are down or you can't connect to their servers. Keep this in mind that being on the Playstation Network and being connected to IW's servers for a game of COD4 are two completely different things. IW has posted within their site that you may need to open a port or two on your router to be able to connect and play. Consult their COD4 website for more information

I finally got into a game but I'm the only one there...then I waited for 45 minutes for people to join, then I got to play...what can I do to speed this up?

Ok...don't ever wait for 5 minutes, yet alone 45 minutes, to get your kill on. That is valuable time that is needed so you can get EXP. If you ever get into a room, you're by yourself, and waiting for people to join, leave the lobby and try to join a game again. Even if you end up in game by yourself AGAIN and AGAIN, rinse and repeat, you will get into a game eventually. It works for me and it will for you. And even if 2,3,4,5 people are waiting with you for more than 2 minutes, leave the lobby and try again. Life is too short to be waiting to die...lol

Why do people love Search and Destroy so much?

Search and Destroy is the true test of your tactical efficiency and accuracy. Never mock S&D! EVER!!!

Search and Destroy is actually pretty awesome to play if you have excellent communication and not a bunch of Rambos on your team. 50 EXP per kill...that's what....5 or 10 kills depending on what other modes your playing. When on the planting side, it is ideal for the whole team to stick together, which some people dont like to do and they play like it's Team Deathmatch, and pick the best destination to plant the bomb. When defending, it is ideal to split up into 2 teams and ONLY play defensively on the 2 points in question. Usually when someone goes hunting for the bomb planters, by themselves, they end up waiting 2-3 minutes to come back to life in the next round. I hate to say it, but when you are defending, pick idea 'camping' spots that cover door ways that you think the planting team is going to enter. Another thing to look for if your defending is who dropped the suitcase bomb. If you find them, then you can set up camp around the bomb, and wait for the other team to come straight to you.

What's a clan? I wanna be in a clan! Who will let me be in their clan? Oooo...can I be in your clan?

A Clan is a group of people that 'click' when they play together...click as in they have fun, welcome each other's company, and don't screw each other over...all while playing competetively against other people and clans. Most clans are recognized by their tag that is inbetween brackets like this for instance: [JUGY]Jermaine. If you're looking for a clan, you're on the right message board because lots of people are recruiting like School of Hard Knocks (SOHK), Invisible (INV), and Fallen Heroes. Me, im not really in a clan, kinda a loner, mercenary. I like playing with alot of different people, but when i find an awesome group with good communication to play with, we kick ass and take names. You should do the same, try different clans out and see which ones fit your personality and play level best

What is camping? Should I bring smores stuff?

Uh no...there will be no kumbaya by this fire. Camping is where someone sits in one spot, hiding, for a good 5 minutes or whatever and waits for people to run by to shoot them...probably what alot of you guys will do for the first few days youre online, just so you can get your feet wet, which is fine by me, since we'll just find you and kill you each time since most of us know where the major camping spots are and there are kill cams too to prevent camping. Some people frown upon it, I know I do, but it just means we werent smart enough, or just thinking too hard about how we were going to kill you when we get back to that area

WHAT?! I unlocked all of these perks and weapons online, but I can't customize in split screen offline...HELP!!!

Yea, kinda stupid on the developers part...I really dont understand why they couldnt allow everything unlocked and customizable for offline split screen. But thats how it is. Stuff you unlocked online is for online only. Now go complain to IW to release a patch or something that allows offline customization.

So are there any bots I can play against offline?

Nope, just yourself and whoever else is at your house. I remember the good ol' days of Duke Nukem and Turok Rage Wars where you did have bots to play against. Good times if you were by yourself, but you were always smarter than them, so developers started taking that option out.

How do I unlock the cheats for single player?

Cheats are unlocked through the collection of 30 laptops scattered across the single player campaign. After your first play through, the game will start telling how many are in a level and how many you have collected in that level when you access the cheat menu. You can search on Google or even this site for the locations of each one.

What should I know about Hardcore Mode?

Hardcore mode is pretty awesome. It's the best simulation of a real war zone. Personally I think it's the best mode to get your headshot challenges done in. There is no HUD with your ammo count and projected sights (where the bullets might go) Everything is free aim and manual aiming down your iron sights or whatever you have on your gun. There is no radar until you activate a UAV (that makes it an ideal mode if you want to use other perks/attachments, just dont get pissy when the other team constantly gets UAVs...because some teams make that part of their strategy - get 3 in a row, intentionally die, rinse and repeat. Friendly Fire is on, meaning you CAN kill your teammates with everything in your arsenal. I believe your own flash and stun grenades affect your teammates too. Here's a few things to remember when playing this mode:

-Coming back to life takes longer. It is based on how many people are dead at any given time. If one person is dead it takes the longest versus 4 people which takes about 4 seconds I believe.
-Do your best to check your fire. Dont go guns blazing into a building especially if you dont know whos in it.
-DONT EVER USE MARTYRDOM!!!! Other people on this board as well as myself absolutely hate dying because you died. We also wont hesitate to get a little pay back.
-Call out your airstrikes. Yes, these will kill your teammates too. Do your best to mark somewhere where you think the enemy is going to go or is but at the same time avoid teammates. Usually I tell everyone to stay put when im doing an airstrike and it's successsful most of the time.
-Press start every now and then to check the possition of your allies. If your quick enough, when one of your teammates dies, you can see where they died at and get a bit of a fix on the enemy's location. It's also helpful if you hear footsteps and you want to know if it's just your team moving around near you.

Man, I swear I shot that guy the face yet he got to drop on me! What should I do if I'm lagging?

If you ever find yourself moving around sporadically youre more than likely lagging. You can choose to wait it out, see if the connection gets better, or leave immediately. Most of the time I leave though, because usually your K/D ratio suffers. Also if you see anyone moving extra extra fast around the map and moving sporadically, so sporadically you can't hit them for the love of Jesus, leave, just in case they are exploiting something themselves. It's not worth you getting worked up because youre mad, you dont play as well. Now if youve been in a match for a long time, and it's almost about to end, then dont quit so you dont miss out on your EXP and match bonuses. Just chill somewhere safe

Is there anyway to play cooperative, or online split screen?

Unfortunetly no. Co-op would have been so cool. As for online split screen...with certain modes (hardcore) that would scream cheating. To be honest, regardless of only having half a screen, split screeners get a major tactical advantage. Think about it.

What are my objectives in Search and Destroy, Sabotage, Domination, and Headquarters?

Search and Destroy - If youre on the planting side, obviously to plant the bomb at Point A or B. It's best to stick with the rest of the team and protect the bomb carrier/planter. Sometimes spliting up works for a little flanking action, but i prefer staying together. Now it's not over yet until the fat lady sings. Once the bomb is planted, you have 35 seconds before it blows, so you still have to defend that area. Cover entry ways, plant C4/claymores were you think the enemy is going to enter. I takes 5 seconds to plant and defuse a bomb, so make sure you give yourself enough time if youre working the clock as one of your mind games.

If youre defending, like ive said before split into two teams, cover each area. All you have to do is defend, you have the most time to set up shop and camp out because the enemy has to come to you to win.. If they dont plant the bomb, they lose. Dont go gunho and search by yourself, just stay put.

Most important thing to remember is value your life, because once you died, you dont come back until the next round.

Sabotage - Not a big fan of this mode. Almost the same thing as S&D except theres only one point on each side to blow up and the teams fight over the bomb. You will always have a general idea of where the bomb planter is on your HUD. Thats just how the mode is. Even if you have UAV Jammer equiped as one of your perks, they will see you. Planting and defusing the bomb takes a lot less time in this mode (2 - 3 seconds). Fast paced action here. Unlimited spawns

Domination - There are 3 flags in designated locations on each map, the idea is to hold the majority of the flags so you accumulate points (1 point for each flag held every 5, 10 seconds i think). Score limit is 200 points. Best tactics here would be to hold at least 2 flags, and have 1 person keep trying to go for the third, just to keep the enemy on their toes. You can easily rotate that so you keep deaths low. Whenever you hear losing A,B, or C...run for that point, toss a grenade over there, do something to prevent that capture. The more people you have with you at a flag youre trying to capture, the faster you will take it for the record IW should disable the K/D thing in this mode, because then more people (including myself) uld play it like it was king of the hill and not deathmatch. Same thing with Headquarters.

Headquarters - Similar king of the hill type play. Idea is to capture the headquarters, randomly determined spot on the map, and hold it for as long as possible. holding it for the full time length will net you 65 points. First to 250 wins. Use the same tactics with S&D here; value your life and protect door ways. When the enemy has captured the HQ and you are going to destroy it, you dont get any points, you just prevent them from getting more. Same thing with Domination, the more people around the HQ helping to capture/destroy it, the faster it will happen

Flaming

Perhaps, you didnt notice he is the god damn ADMINISTRATOR? A little respect to this guy, he put up the entire site. And pc and console have their own ups and downs. But uhh.. other readers, alot of the stuff in the above post applies to pc only. I have never had to wait more than 15 seconds for a game to start, and you can play online co-op split screen on 360 if you have the memory unit or means of transporting your live account
