The main problem with the PS3 version of CoD is the servers. Are are terrible. Most of the time, if your lagging, it's not you. It's either the servers or the host you are connected to. If the player who is hosting the game is a large distance away from you, or just has a generally poor connection themselves, you'll get lag.

Unless you actually have a bad Internet connection yourself. Do you? Or does it run fine, with good consistency and reasonable speeds? Is it only CoD that has noticeable lag, or every online game?

+ I moved the thread to the help forum.

it only happens sometimes, like i have no lag at all, then out of nowhere it goes to 1 bar, then 2, or back to 1 again

Well it does sound like a host problem on CoD. I know mine can be fine, then the host's Internet will bugger up and everyone will be shot down to one bar. Or sometimes it's just me, I'll join a game and everyone has 3-4 bars, and I'll be at one bar, lagging like crazy.

If it gets unplayable just leave the game, find another one, and hope you get a better host, or someone nearer to you.

What internet do you have? Wireless?

If it's wireless, I recommend getting it wired. Because wireless tends to go out periodically for short periods of time. But when it's wired, it will lag less. If it is wired, then make sure it's close to the source. If the line let's say enters your house in the kitchen, splits to one area, and then to your router, it will go much slower than if it was directly plugged to your router.

And weather. When it's real cold outside, I lag for some reason. But when it's hot no lag. For example, in the winter I get quit out of lots of games.

And pretty much, like iSniper said, it usually isn't you. The host lags a lot.
