It's the laser beam, you can see it when you put night vision on.

ur question in the sp forum may be ages ago.....but i know the answer to the box sticking on the m4.....it is a PEQ laser box...it has a visible and infrared laser module.....on the missions in sp on the mission when u rescue nikolai...u use m4 with the infrared laser on when using the night vision

that my friends is the laser designater from the dancing in the dark challange.  It is a infared laser that only shows up with your nightvision on.
